Aneela Hoey's fabrics are inspired by the things she loves.

Aneela studied printed textile design at Winchester School of Art before working at design studios in both London and New York as well as freelance work. Her design work usually starts out with hand drawn sketches and artwork before being recreated in either Illustrator or Photoshop. She loves designing digitally so that she can play around with colour, form and layout to create something interesting.

Aneela Hoey has been creating fabric lines for Moda since her first collection Sherbet Pips was released in 2011. Her most recent collections include Make Time (released last year) and Meander (shipping soon). Characteristics of Aneela’s style include whimsical motifs, playful blenders and fine attention to detail.

Aneela is currently obsessed with writing patterns for sewing organizers - pouches, totes, boxes and cases that can be sewn up and used to hold tools and supplies for stitching projects. Her most popular designs include the Zip Up Tray Pouch, Inside Outside Pouch and Booklet Pouch. Aneela’s goal is to create designs that are both inventive and functional. You’ll find her fabric designs work perfectly with these projects as well as any quilt design you may currently have your eye on.

What is your favorite color?

Orange.

Summer - I’m a warm weather person.

Are you a morning person or a night owl?

I love the morning hours so a "morning person."

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

An air hostess.  (I love travelling.)

What inspires you daily?

Colour more than anything, but also unintentional patterns.

What is your favorite food?

Spinach and ricotta cannelloni.

Where was your best vacation?

In the 90’s, I worked at an American summer camp in the Catskills followed by a month travelling around the US on a Delta Airlines standby airpass. We went everywhere.

What is your favorite movie? Actress or Actor?

My favorite movie would be Last Christmas or The Big Short.  And my favorite actress would be Aubrey Plaza.
