Hi, Bake Shop Bakers!  I’m Lisa Jo Girodat of Neverlandstitches by Lisa Jo.   I am so excited to be here for the At the Seashore Quilt Along! I live in Michigan, The Great Lakes State, and grew up less than 5 miles from Lake St. Clair.  I may not be near the seashore, but Michigan has the longest freshwater coastline in the US.  Our shoreline is 3,288 miles.  Our summers may be short, but boy do we know how to jam in as much fun as possible.  In my neighborhood, almost every third house has a boat of some type.  Also, numerous of families have cottages along the lake shore which happens to surround the entire state.

Cottages on Harsen's Island, Michigan

One of my favorite places is a little places is called Harsen's Island, which has some wonderful beach houses, cottages, and year round houses on it.  The coolest thing is that you can only get there by ferry.  So grab your favorite summertime beverage and come hang out on the South Channel with me in these sweet little Beach Houses, which will be a wonderful addition to your At The Seashore This post is part of our summer quilt-along series. Find the rest of the posts by clicking {here}. Cut the following:

• FABRIC A: Background Fabric – (4) 4-inch squares
• FABRIC B: Roofs - (1) - 7.25 inch square of a red print
• FABRIC C: Houses - Navy Print - (4) - 3.5 x 2.5 inch rectangles, (4) 2.5 x 2 inch rectangle
• FABRIC D: Aqua print -(4) - 3.5 x 2.5 inch rectangles, (4) 2.5 x 2 inch rectangle

A 3.5 & 6.5 inch flying geese ruler Before you begin: Read the entire pattern before you begin so that you may plan out which fabrics you want to use in the various sections.

• All seams are a quarter inch
• Fabrics were spray starched before cutting
• Seams were all pressed to the darker fabrics

Four at a time flying geese ( the roofs of the houses): Draw a line from one corner to the opposite corner on the reverse side of the four 4 inch background squares. Place two 4 inch squares on the 7.25 inch square of red print fabric, RST and small squares in opposite corners.  The lines on the reverse sides of the 4 inch squares should flow together. Sew ¼ inch on each side of the line. Cut the piece in half on the drawn lines   Press open. Place a 4 inch square in the corner of each unit, right sides together, and marked lines positioned as shown in the photo. Sew a ¼ inch on each side of the line and then repeat for the second unit. Cut the piece in half on the drawn lines and then press open. Trim the four flying geese to 3.5 x 6.5 inches.   Assemble the bottom half of the houses: Sew a 2.5 x 2 inch aqua print to a 2.5 x 2 inch navy print (door). Right sides together and sew along the 2.5 inch side.  Press open. Sew a 3.5 x 2.5 inch aqua rectangle along each side of the door piece as show in the photo below.  Press. Sew a flying geese on top of the house unit as the roof. Each beach house should measure at 6.5 inches unfinished. Assemble the entire block as shown in the photo below so it looks like the beach houses are on a channel:   This block finishes at 12" x 12". Easy Peasy!  This is a cute block and the Orchard fabric line by April Rosenthal is so much fun.  I hope you enjoy this year's the quilt along, At The Seashore, and stay tuned for more fun blocks!
