Welcome To Moda Fabrics!
A Blooming Bunch of Flower Girls
A Blooming Bunch of Flower Girls
It's time to Bloom! Now that A Blooming Bunch by Maureen McCormick is on it's way to shops - and hopefully, to you! - we're ready to make something groovy. Something Marcia Brady would love!
Maureen described this as funky flowers and prints with an updated-retro palette. We love that it's also modern with a groovy feel. (As in, a few of us wish we still had our white go-go boots.)
We had ideas for quilts, and we made several. But we when our sweet friend, Susan, sent us pictures of the Flower Girl blocks she was making, we knew we needed this quilt too. A Blooming Flower Girl. Though we're going to tease you a bit and only show a few blocks.
The pattern is Camille Roskelley's Flower Girl - aka Thimble Blossoms #151. The blocks finish at 16" x 16" - 16½" x 16½" unfinished - and the completed quilt measures 76" x 96".
Since we couldn't all hang together for a sewing weekend, we're doing the next best thing, we're having a quilt-along starting Monday, November 30. We'll share a few piecing tips, some prizes, and a few Blooming Bunch sightings.
Here's what you need:
- Thimble Blossoms Flower Girl pattern - of course. Ask for it at your favorite quilt shop or ask Camille.
- 20 fat quarters for petals and centers
- 7 fat quarters for leaves
- 1 fat quarter for sashing corner units
- 3¼ yards background - we're using Bella Solid Off-White - No. 9900 200.
- ¾ yard for binding
- 5¾ yards for backing
Feel free to double-up with your favorite prints in the collection.
With Bonnie & Camille's Shine On in shops, Camille wondered what a Shining Flower Girl might looks like.
Now you want to make two Flower Girls, don't you? (We do!)
When does this start? Monday, November 30, and we'll wrap-up on Monday, December 14. It's a busy time of year, and there will be many things going on, but having something to sew each day is a lovely respite. At least that's how it's been for many of us.
Is there a hashtag? Absolutely! It's #modabloomingflowerqal
We hope you'll stitch some flowers with us... we think it's going to be fun. And a quilt-finish is a nice way to end this year.
Happy Friday!
