Scrap Happy. Happy Scrappy.

To my mind, everybody loves scrap quilts.  I'm probably biased.

Clockwise from the upper-left corner:  Scrap Basket Quilt by Amy Smart - My Favorite Color by Lissa Alexander - Housewarming by Amy Ellis - Meadow by Corey Yoder.

The book is Scraps Made Simple - 15 Sensationally Scrappy Quilts from Pre-Cuts.  Fifteen quilts from fifteen Moda-certified quilters - the Moda All-Stars.  In addition to making a quilt for the book, Lissa Alexander - ModaLissa - hand-picked the list of contributors that includes several Moda fabric designers and many of her friends in the quilting world.

Our friends at Martingale - That Patchwork Place - are sharing some of the "designer secrets" from the book today.  Scraps of Wisdom - each designer was asked several questions about storing scraps, signature moves, why they love scrap quilts, etc.  (It's one of my favorite things in the book.)

Moda Fabric Designers - Edyta Sitar of Laundry Basket Quilts - Lynne Hagmeier of Kansas Troubles Quilts - Lisa Bongean of Primitive Gatherings - Corey Yoder of Coriander Quilts - Amy Ellis of Amy's Creative Side - and Sherri McConnell of A Quilting Life.

Super-cool friends and amazing quilt designers - Jenny Doan of Missouri Star Quilt Co. - Amy Smart of Diary of a Quilter - Sherri Falls of This 'n That - Laura Boehnke ~ the long-time, revered "alternate version" designer for American Patchwork & Quilting - Jan Ragaller ~ quilt-shop owner, designer, author, etc. - Susan Ache ~ a prolific creator of original, scrappy quilts that she just made up as she went along - and Lisa H. Calle of Quilter's Groove Rulers.

And me.  This is Old School.

It's based on one of those "who knows where this comes from" antiques from the early days of Pinterest.  I loved the idea of repeating a single block - especially when I could use a different fabric for each of the 210 blocks.  In playing around with options for the block sizes, my choice was determined by the block that could be made with two matching charm squares - or two blocks from a 10" x 10" layer cake square.  Fat Quarters and Fat Eighths will also work beautifully but the smaller the piece, the more variety, right?

As for how long this took me to make... a couple of months.  I made the blocks in batches of 25 to 30 using a single colorway - e.g., 25 blue blocks, 25 green blocks, etc.  Since each block has seven half-triangle squares, I made them eight-at-a-time with one leftover.  (I planned to make something with them but eventually shared them with someone who loves itty-bitty pieces.)

Because the nice folks at Martingale sent me a few more books than I'm going to need, we're going to share three copies - three winners.

If you leave a comment by Midnight on Sunday, June 5th, you could win a copy of Scraps Made Simple.

Then get busy pulling and sorting your scraps.
